I have always embraced the challenge of creating my crafts while spending the least amount of money possible. Sometimes I have trouble getting rid of things that some people may consider useless because I may find a use for these items later. A perfect example of this is playing cards that have a card or cards missing. What do you think of this?

Believe it or not, this “Candy House” was made from playing cards, frosting, mini marshmallows, and icing decorations! Oh and a standard stapler.

Step 1: Gather your kids, a deck of cards, your stapler, a tub of frosting, a spreader, and the decorations you chose for this project.

Step 2: Assemble the candy house using 6 to 8 playing cards for each house. Take two of the cards and fold them using another card as your guide.

Step 3: Staple the ends of the house to the walls as shown below.

This was the point in the project when my Grandchildren informed me that they wanted porches on their houses, so if you want a porch or two, fold a card in half and staple it to the wall of your house where you want your porch to be. This is much easier before you put the roof on the house.

Step 4: Fold two cards, preferably face cards, for the roof. Face cards give you a border to fold on lengthwise.

Step 5: Staple the seam of your roof by putting the short folded sides of the face cards together and then staple your roof on.

Step 6: Spread your frosting over your house with your spreader. This is how you will get your decorations to stick.

Step 7: Add your decorations to the house by using the frosting as “glue”. The children decided that this was the “tasty” part of the project!

And, Voila! You have DIY Christmas Candy Houses that do not cost a bundle to make and you won’t mind throwing away after the holiday season is over!! In fact, it stays assembled better than the average gingerbread house in my opinion too!! This was a fun and “sweet” way to spend the afternoon with my Grandchildren while listening to Christmas music. It was a real joy to watch them working on their creations and seeing the final result.
